Second Year DesignPracticeThree: 'Say Something Political'

I consider the work I completed during the last few months of University, without a doubt. My greatest.
However, the first year was over so quickly. Im Hungry.
I wanted to pursue this pathway. Its more than just a grade now, its a test of my creativity. The university doesn't set the bar.
I do.

After completing my first year of University, refreshed after a Summer of 'free thought' where there were no briefs, projects or design challenges that loomed in my subconscious, requiring my creativity to solve them. I now have to reach back into the overzealous creative side of my thoughts, start thinking as the producer once more and no longer the consumer. I feel I left off last year after showing my final presentation, I had never built up such creative focus and enthusiasm towards the completion of my goals and projects in my life before. I need to find myself again and match the pace I had left off. An artist's or designer's mind is never switched off from analysing everything in day to day life and letting imagination and problem solving take off at the possibility of a new idea, for a project or brief. From the minute I wake up, to the moment I go to sleep, I should be training my thoughts to be like this, and be open to any new concepts or ideas that could advance myself, or my work further.

The first term is split up into two modules; Design Practice Three (DP3) and Context 2.

For Context 2, I have a 2000 − 3000 word essay which deals with work experience, the value of business related demand and where I will fit into the business world of design and in particular Moving Image - Film/Television

For DP3, I have nine weeks to produce a 30 second commercial/TV ad titled; 'Say Something Political'

Also, the content of the ad has to be something I am passionate about.

My first thoughts on the 'Say Something Political' brief were;

- I had to establish immediately what I classed as 'Political.'

(As cited in the Dictionary)

 - What am I passionate about?

- Does my chosen concept 'Say Something Political?'

- Is my chosen concept feasible/achievable in the allotted 9 week window, and will I be able to fund it.

- For it to have impact, people must be able to relate to the content. So, can people relate to my passionate message?

To go along with these thoughts, I had to surround myself with things from all aspects of life and works that I respect, love and admire. - Food for thought is the life force that a designer is fuelled by...

I need to bring my passions to life, and convey it in a 'visual-audio, political message.'

I believe, a good idea is priceless. Everything great, started as a result of a hungry, creative passion.

Time to nurture those creative juices, once more. . .
